NEW REGULATIONS AND
POLICIES
For the year 2022, there will be some new regulations or policies that will impact
the operations of Malaysian shipping industries. These are as follows:
First Schedule, Part I of the Third Schedule, and Part I of the Fourth Schedule
of the Customs (Prohibition of Imports) Order 2017
New amendments have been made to the First Schedule, Part I of the Third
Schedule, and Part I of the Fourth Schedule of the Customs (Prohibition of
Imports) Order 2017, coming into force on January 10, 2022, to enhance control of
metal and scrap paper importation.
Cited as Customs (Prohibition of Imports) (Amendment) (No 2) Order 2022,
this amendment stipulates that the importation of waste and scrap metal and
recovered paper and paperboard to Malaysia shall be accompanied by a
Certificate of Approval (“CoA”) issued by or on behalf of SIRIM Berhad, as defined
under the Guidelines for Importation and Inspection of Metal Scrap and the
Guidelines for Importation and Inspection of Waste Paper respectively.
All ports under MMC strive to fully comply and adapt to the any new
regulations set by the government and has already acquired the necessary
documentation needed to abide by this new policy.
