6 MMC PORTS’ NEWSLETTER

          RECENT MAINTENANCE INITIATIVES

In cognisance of higher volumes throughout the past months, each port has stepped up in terms of its individual maintenance
initiatives, dutifully carrying out dedicated tasks to ensure both reliability and cost-effectiveness of all port equipment as well as
          facilities.

           Northport

Besides periodic tasks, checks, and upkeep measures, Northport had executed multiple major maintenance protocols centred
around both equipment and facilities, with recent notable examples on both fronts including:
           Equipment:
           • The extensive maintenance of QCs and RTGs, which involved critical structural inspections for cracks or corrosion, wire
rope lubrication and replacements, hoist, gantry and boom servicing, electrical systems inspections (control panels, wiring,
and sensors for limit switches and emergency stop systems), hydraulic system inspection, repairs, and component
            replacements.
           • Prime mover and Stacker maintenance carried out through successful cabin suspension, replacement of engine and
transmission, as well as comprehensive overhauls of brake system, electrical system, and front axle assembly.
           Facilities:
           • Fender and bollard replacement at Wharf 22 and 23 to enhance the safety of the wharf infrastructure for vessel berthing.
           • Under wharf repair at Wharf 11 and resurfacing of Wharf 10 to improve the wharf condition.
           • Improvement of dock leveller at Northport Distripark Sdn Bhd (NDSB) warehouse to facilitate the warehouse operations.
           • Replacement of roofing at NDSB warehouse to upgrade the facilities.
           • Repair and maintenance of six units of high mast lights to meet current operational requirements.

           PTP
PTP currently executes a series of routine tasks centered around inspections of critical crane and vehicular components
at regular intervals, with frequency ranging based on data from mileage counters and operational hour metres. Monthly
maintenance measures often include the cleaning and lubrication of key components, as well as the inspection and repair
of mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems. Structural integrity checks and load tests were also carried out to ensure that
the cranes and vehicles can reliably handle their rated capacities, while functional tests and calibrations maintain accuracy
and reliability. Additionally, brakes and tyres, control systems, and safety gear also undergo testing to ensure flawless
           functionality.

           Penang Port
Penang Port has kickstarted several initiatives to ensure the longevity and cost-effectiveness of its equipment. One of the
key initiatives that is currently ongoing is the cranes’ comprehensive structure survey to analyse and rectify based on the
detailed condition of the crane’s major structural damages and defects. Notably, another initiative also includes
a proof-of-concept project that converts a fully diesel-powered RTG into a hybrid system-powered RTG, which will reduce fuel
consumption by downsizing the diesel engine and introduction battery unit to power the electrical equipment on the RTG.

           Kontena Nasional
For the year, Kontena Nasional has focused its efforts on prime movers/trailers maintenance, with the entire fleet currently
being maintained by appointed contractors registered under Kontena Nasional under the supervision of Kontena Nasional’s ESD
at Port Klang, Penang and Kuantan branches.
Over the first 2 quarters, Kontena Nasional has already undertaken various maintenance activities for its fleet of prime movers
and trailers, with approximately half of Kontena Nasional’s active fleet maintained under comprehensive 5-year/500,000km
maintenance contracts signed with Volvo and Scania, involving the Volvo Gold Service Agreement and the ScaniaMAX
programme. Kontena Nasional’s adherence to these schedules and protocols ensures that its fleet remains in optimal condition,
minimising downtime while maximising efficiency and safety on the road.
           Johor Port

A contract for the supply, delivery, installation, testing and commissioning of a new Conveyor belt for Pipe Conveyor System
No.2 (PCS 2) and Wharf Conveyor No. 6 (WC6) at Break Bulk Terminal was awarded to Red energy Ventures Sdn Bhd.
PCS2's was last replaced in 2019 and WC6's belt in 2016. The conveyors used to handle clinker cargo was successfully replaced
and handed over to operations in April 2024.

Additionally, repair and maintenance works were also done for the port’s LL5 Crane’s drive system to permanently solve
a repeated Insulated-Gate Bipolar Transistor issue that occurred while lowering motions, which rendered the Crane inoperable
for a prolonged period. This was carried out with the involvement of the M&R Department’s engineers together with the drive
           manufacturer (ABB).
